Mayor Bonnie Crombie was a special guest at the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre’s Summer Company wrap-up celebration and shared her 20 years of business experiences with the student participants.
The Summer Company program which ran from May to August, helped students between the ages of 15 and 29 start their own full time summer business with business training, mentorship and a grant of up to $3,000 to get their business started.
Over the course of the Summer Company program, students developed the following transferable skills with coaching from local business experts: cash flow management, budgeting, invoicing, bookkeeping, financial organization, business management, sales & marketing, customer service and networking.
This summer, 17 students from Mississauga successfully started their summer business and created full time employment over the summer. 94.1% percent of the students plan on operating their businesses beyond the Summer Company program.
