In celebration of Small Business Month, October, Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC) has launched a new series to help entrepreneurs maximize the online presence of their businesses. The first of the four-part series took place on October 4 at the Mississauga Central Library with keynote speaker, Javed S. Khan of EMpression: A Marketing Services Company. The audience became well-informed of the giant tool in marketing: Email. How often do you check your email?
Even with the new digital age, email is the most effective marketing tool in delivering key content to desired audiences. Javed revealed that for every $1 investment, email returns $41. He also, shared a key message with the audience: choose another form of social media, with email, that resonates well with clients. “Figure out the ONE social media channel you need to be on,” exclaimed Javed. His message was straight forward, you are not obligated to be on every social media channel – the key is to find out what works best. To find out what works best, Javed says, “It’s simple; simply, ask them. Conduct a short survey or poll and get to know what your audience wants.”
When asked, what do you think it the main challenge with digital marketing? He answered, “people need the chance to sit back and strategize where they want to be on digital. They think they have to be on every digital channel – but it may not work for everyone. People need to hunker down and figure out which digital strategy makes sense for them.” He summarizes, “find your goals, figure out your target market, and figure out your timeline.”
JAVED’S TIP OF THE DAY: “Segment your email list; segment your data!” Javed continues to explain that “If you are not segmenting your data, you are just hoping for the best and hope is not a strategy. Segment your list and figure out who is on that list – then, write content specifically for that list and watch the results.”
Javed’s witty personality and his Shrek-shaped Bucket of ‘1981 vintage candy’, livens the audience every night. From here, the celebrations only continue! With the next Digital Marketing Seminar taking place on October 18, focused on Social Media Marketing, MBEC is expected to reel in a lot of business owners with outstanding advice on how to grow your business online.
