Congratulations to the First Starter Company PLUS Grant Recipients!
Six entrepreneurs from Mississauga are winners of a live pitch competition and received a grant award of $5,000 each as part of their participation in the City of Mississauga’s Starter Company PLUS Program, which is delivered by the City’s Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC).
The successful grant recipients competed to be selected to pitch their ideas in front of a panel of judges. They delivered a live pitch on a range of different business venture proposals including an online women’s fashion store, a food production company looking to grow the product line, a security company expanding the business into Mississauga, an artist, and two therapeutic health care services. Receiving the program training, mentoring and the grant of $5,000 will help them with either their initial start-up costs or provide them with the ability to invest the grant money to expand their existing businesses.
“I have had a great experience working with MBEC and the Starter Company PLUS Program as I was working to get my Physiotherapy Clinic up and running…I received invaluable personalized assistance with many aspects of my business, from preparing the business plan, financials, and social media marketing strategies, and was able to successfully pitch for the $5000 grant. That money has been key for me being able to buy signs for my clinic windows, and clinic equipment that I could purchase and use immediately,” says Lynda McClatchie, PT, MSc, CertMDT, Owner of Elevation Physiotherapy & Wellness
“… The mentorship, grant and support offered as part of Starter Company PLUS program, strengthened my existing business, helped me to expand, and was instrumental in executing my vision for the business,“ says Praveen Udagani, Founder of Flaxy Inc.
The Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre launched the new Starter Company PLUS Program in September 2017. The program is designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners, 18 years and older, in the Mississauga area start, grow, or purchase a business. The program provides free business training, mentoring and the opportunity to apply and compete for a grant of up to $5,000.
