Are you successful in business? If you are, you know that your customers want value for money. And you deliver.
Successful governments must deliver value for money, too. The City of Mississauga’s commitment to provide value for money to its taxpayers is unwavering. As a result, our community offers real advantages and real value to businesses located here.
The City’s 2016 Budget is a good showcase for our story. For their money, Mississauga businesses will receive fire and emergency service, 24/7/365; more than 5,200 lane kilometers of roadway for their personal and commercial use; an 85-route public transit system to carry them/their employees to and from work, study, and play; arts programming and cultural events that draw 1.8 million people and their associated commerce; maintenance for their $8.3 billion worth of service-providing infrastructure assets; an array of online services, and much more.
The value we deliver is realized in part because like you, we focus on driving efficiency into every aspect of our work. In 2016, the efficiencies and cost savings we have created will contribute $4.7 million to the City’s bottom line.
The good news is that we do all this at a relatively low cost to taxpayers. There is no lower commercial or industrial property tax rate this close to Canada’s busiest airport, the port at Toronto and four 400-series highways. Success – whether in business or in government – means delivering value for money. Just as you are vigilant in your business, Mississauga is vigilant – seeking out opportunities to achieve new efficiencies that will amplify the value of every tax dollar. Throughout 2016 I will share stories with you in this space about some of the innovations that are driving real value for money for Mississauga taxpayers every day.
