Japan is an important source of foreign direct investment in Mississauga. In November 2013, the Mayor McCallion and the Economic Development Office (EDO) hosted local Japanese businesses to thank the 70+ companies that originate from Japan for their investment in the City of Mississauga.
The Consul General of Japan in Toronto, Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, was in attendance and a good time was had by all. Through networking, the City and local Japanese companies built better relationships and the City gained a better understanding of local business issues Japanese companies’ face. During the event Mayor McCallion asked that company executives act as City of Mississauga Brand Ambassadors and solicited their assistance for an upcoming economic development mission to Japan scheduled for April 2014.
Since then, Japanese companies have been working with EDO staff to identify potential additional foreign direct investment from Japan.
The City of Mississauga entered into an official twinning agreement with the City of Kariya, Japan, on July 7th, 1981. Along with business meetings, the Mayor wishes to visit Kariya to continue to promote goodwill between both our cities and to enhance the international awareness of our citizens through the exchange of cultural, educational and sporting activities.
As Manager, Global Business Investment of EDO, I look forward to accompanying the Mayor on this important investment mission, that will include City visits to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Kariya.
