The Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC) continues its celebration of Small Business Month with Part 2 of their FREE Digital Marketing Seminars. These seminars are reflective of the growing digital marketing trends that help business owners in maximizing their businesses online. The second seminar in the series of four was focused on ‘Content Marketing: What to say, and How to Say it’. This seminar, like the others, was delivered by the President of EMpression: A Marketing Services Company, Javed S. Khan.
One of the hottest trends in digital marketing Javed says is Content Marketing: “content these days is currency; people live to consume this”. He explains, “content is not just words – it is words, images, and videos.” The way in which you choose to showcase your business online is important so that it resonates well with your audience. Consumers are accustomed to being sold to and as a result try to minimize any form of promotional activity. In fact, as noted by Javed, “38% of people will unsubscribe if the content is not interesting,” while an alarming “32% of people will send their emails to spam if it is irrelevant.” Javed claims the latter misfortune may be due to businesses not segmenting their email lists. He reveals that once a consumer has flagged an email as spam, it automatically gets sent to the Spam Folder. To prevent this from occurring, Javed suggests creating a Content Calendar, which can be used to effectively plan out appropriate distribution of your content online and can be done so by using your choice of social media management and direct marketing tools.
What do you write about? was amongst the popular questions asked to Javed during the seminar. He replied, “be the expert in your field. Write about what you know and what your audience does not know.” Javed emphasizes that writing is not the only form of expression and that depending on your business, your audience, and your expertise – you can choose other forms.
JAVED’S TIP OF THE DAY: “Content marketing is more important than ever when you look at the stats: 57% of a typical purchase decision is made before a customer even engages with your business. This means that over half your customers may only have your content to interact with before making a purchase. That makes content critically important.”
MBEC’s last FREE Digital Marketing Seminar, “How to Use LinkedIn to Boost Your Business & Personal Brand,” takes place on October 25, 2016. For information and to register for this final Digital Marketing Seminar, visit Mississauga.ca/mbec.
