I have always been passionate about entrepreneurship and competing. During my last year in high school, I heard about the Young Entrepreneurs, Make your Pitch contest where students can pitch their business idea in a two minute video. This sparked my interest as it was an opportunity for me to turn my idea into a business venture.
I was thrilled and excited to find out that I was announced as one of 20 finalists from the 2015 Young Entrepreneurs, Make your Pitch contest. As a finalist, I had the unique opportunity to attend the Ontario Centres of Excellence’s Discovery Conference in Toronto in May 2015. At the Discovery conference, myself and 19 like-minded high school students from across Ontario got to network and receive coaching by business professionals prior to a live pitch.
“The Make Your Pitch competition is a great competition for students interested not only in business, but in any subject. The experience will allow you to develop skills from networking all the way to working out the feasibility of a business.”
As one of six winners of 2015 Young Entrepreneurs, Make your Pitch contest I received reserved entry to the Summer Company program that offered business plan development, consultation, mentorship and a grant of up to $3000 to start my business venture, Unwanted Gifts. Unwanted Gifts is a free online service that allows consumers to trade their gift with other people.
“Through the Summer Company Program I was able to develop soft skills that greatly benefited me in University. The Summer Company Program gave me an opportunity to learn from successful entrepreneurs and to receive unparalleled mentorship.”
I am currently a first year student in the Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies at the University of Western Ontario with an advanced entry opportunity into the Richard Ivey School of Business.
