It was one month ago that I took off to Lima, Peru for a 10-day international trade mission with Global Vision’s Junior Team Canada. While abroad, our team of 15 youth leaders from across Canada made it our job to promote exchanges between Canadian and Peruvian post-secondary institutions, strengthen bilateral trade and promote cultural awareness. We formed meaningful relationships across all of Peru’s main industries, my focus being the environment sector. Prior to my departure, it was in great kindness that I received support from the Mississauga Economic Development Office in reaching out to Mississauga businesses to find clean-tech and environmentally friendly companies to represent while abroad. In doing so, I learned a lot about what my city has to offer!
Clean-tech is not as large in Mississauga in comparison with finance or food and beverage; this was the main barrier in finding sponsorship within the city. It was amazing, however, to rediscover Mississauga and see it in a new light. To see it as a place where diversity in language and culture as well as education creates a great advantage on the world stage. As human capital is one of the highest ranked priorities according to CEOs, Mississauga is the mecca for business that I never knew existed. I look forward to exploring more opportunities with the city in the future!
