The City of Mississauga’s stormwater charge will be applied daily starting January 1, 2016, and will appear on the Region of Peel water bills for Mississauga beginning in March.
Stormwater charges have been calculated as a daily rate. Each bill will show the stormwater charge for the number of days that have passed since a property owners’ last bill. Region of Peel water bills will be sent on the same schedule as they are today. The number of days billed will vary from customer to customer, based on their bill frequency and schedule.
Daily and annual estimates of the stormwater charge for properties are available at the City’s stormwater charge site at www.stormwatercharge.ca, making it possible to estimate and prepare for the first bill. I encourage you to visit the site to find your stormwater estimate and to learn more about the City’s Stormwater Management Program.
The City of Mississauga’s Stormwater Credit Program is now open to applicants. Credits are available to commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential properties. Stormwater credits reduce the stormwater charge by up to 50% on properties with stormwater practices or measures in place that provide direct benefits to the City’s Stormwater Management Program. To be awarded a stormwater charge reduction, or credit, applicants must demonstrate through engineering reports and drawings how well existing or proposed stormwater best management practices meet stormwater quality and quantity criteria defined in the Application Guidance Manual.
