Mississauga remains a magnet to a robust skilled, knowledgeable, and talented labour pool. This success is, in part, the result of thinking strategically to ensure workforce attraction and retention is a priority for the City’s Economic Development Office (EDO) and the broader Mississauga community including educational partners.
EDO had the opportunity to host over 50 senior and top level executives representing local business, education, industry and government and engaged in conversations directed towards promoting and enhancing Mississauga’s capacity to retain talent.
Energy, enthusiasm, and great dialogue reflected the atmosphere surrounding the event as three broad themes emerged, offering insight into key strategies and deliberate actions to further strengthen Mississauga’s talent attraction and retention.
- creating local capacity through talent attraction, retention, and development;
- connecting business, education, government, voluntary sector, associations, intermediaries and other key stakeholder groups;
- competing through targeted strategies delivered in collaboration with local partners.
With the overarching goal of promoting Mississauga as a viable and progressive employment destination, key strategies have been identified and outlined in the “Executive Summary: Dialogue on Talent Event”. The actions from the report will help EDO continue to assess the talent needs of Mississauga’s business community and help bridge the gaps between industry and education.
