As a member of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Board of Directors, I would like to help honour IEDC’s Economic Development Week in North America – May 7-13th.
Economic Development is at the core of happiness and quality of life for communities, by creating, retaining and expanding jobs that facilitate growth, enhance wealth and provide a stable tax base. With more than 20,000 professional economic developers employed worldwide, the industry remains as complex, challenging and rewarding as ever.
Throughout my career as an economic development professional, I have welcomed many businesses to our city and watched them grow. I have facilitated the development of many strategies with the most recent being our 5 Year Life Sciences Cluster Strategy aimed to support the growth and development of the life sciences sector and is the first of its kind for a Canadian municipality. Overall, our efforts aim to transform Mississauga into a global hub of creative and innovative activity where talent and business thrive.
Organizations like IEDC recognize the world’s best in economic development. Recently, IEDC had acknowledged the City of Mississauga Economic Development Office with a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2016 Sector Profiles project.
It is satisfying to know that the work of economic development is acknowledged by all levels of government, our business and community stakeholders and our education and industry partners; however, our work is never done. The Mississauga Economic Development Office will continue to facilitate economic development and business expansion to Mississauga in order to facilitate a healthy and prosperous economy. We will continue to activate the Mississauga Economic Development Strategy: to become a global business magnet; embrace a culture of innovation; and build a knowledge economy.
HAPPY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEEK!
