Meet the young entrepreneur behind an affordable residential cleaning service business: Alyson Scott. Alyson started her business, Maiid 2 Shiine with the support of the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre’s (MBEC) Summer Company Program in the summer of 2016. Her vision behind starting a professional cleaning service for people unable to uphold their residential homes was made possible through the Summer Company’s business training, mentoring, and their courses designed to help businesses build from the ground up.
After great success with starting Maiid 2 Shiine, Alyson returned back to school at Sheridan College in the Fall of 2016. Although she describes managing her business and school as “difficult,” she is actively searching for employees to join her team. Alyson credits the Summer Company’s young entrepreneur program in Mississauga for helping her with time management and organizational skills. With the help and encouragement from the MBEC staff and the program mentors, Alyson further states “they helped me more or less understand where to advertise – where my potential clients are and how to focus on them.” This will greatly help Alyson, especially since she is actively looking for employees for her business.
When asked what trait(s) a young entrepreneur should possess, Alyson echoes the answer of her fellow Summer Company colleague and business owner Jerzy Judyn, with “Communication – being able to communicate with people.” Alyson encourages youth to “not give up when things don’t immediately come together” she reassures that “as long as you can commit time” entrepreneurship is a viable career option ahead.
Alyson’s passion and commitment to helping people with the maintenance of their home, keeps her motivated to continue her business both during school and after school. When asked about the future of Maiid 2 Shiine, Alyson says she will continue to manage Maiid 2 Shiine especially “once school is over and I have more time on my hands to actually operate a business.”
